Located in the foothills of north Phoenix and only an hour’s drive from Sedona, Anthem Arizona is a community unlike any other. With it’s sweeping vistas, sense of seclusion, and peaceful setting, life in Anthem is akin to living on an all inclusive resort, everyday. Anthem Arizona is a Del Webb development which began building in 1998 and is near completion, with the last phase, Arroyo Grande scheduled to be sold out by 2010. It is a planned suburb 34 miles north of downtown Phoenix that opened in 1998. With an estimated population of about 40,000 people and a thriving commercial sector it is a small city unto itself. Anthem has been described as one of the best places to live in Arizona by Phoenix Magazine and the best place to raise a family by Parenting Magazine in November 2003. The community now has a high school, Boulder Creek High School, and four separate K-8 schools serving the area. Interstate 17 is the only connection to the area from the rest of the Phoenix metropolitan area, which sometimes causes traffic delays and problems. However, the Arizona Department of Transportation has begun to widen I-17 from Loop 101 to Anthem Way which will alleviate congestion dramatically. Included within the Anthem development are two world class golf courses, The Persimmon and Ironwood Country Clubs. Both clubs were designed by famed course architect Greg Nash and currently managed by Club Corp. Each courses offer a challenge to golfers of any skill level. And both courses have dedicated clubhouses, fitness facilities, tennis courts, swimming pools, saunas, and restaurants open to all residents of the country club and their guests. Anthem is divided into two sections, the Parkside, and the Country Club. The Country Club section is a gated community of about 2,500 homes and includes the aforementioned golf courses and club houses. The Parkside section includes amenities such as a state of the art fitness facility replete witha rock climbing wall, indoor basketball court, and olympic sized swimming/diving pool. The Parkside also houses the Community Center which has a full water park with slides and wading pools for the little ones, an incredible children’s playground which is circumnavigated by a kiddie train, fishing ponds, softball and baseball fields, soccer field, sand volleyball courts, a skate park, outdoor hockey rink, dog park, and amphitheater. It truly must be seen to believe.
